world-earth-day-sustainability

We say that our great-tasting chocolate is made without compromise, and that statement includes our aim to become a fully sustainable company. We take our responsibilities to the planet as a food manufacturer seriously and are always looking for ways to improve our practice.

Our position as of World Earth Day 2022 is as follows:

We are committed

We’re proud that our suppliers are committed to sustainable environmental practices. We are a small company, so we currently use importers for our ingredients but as our business grows we aim to work directly with the growers - creating a closer relationship, and better financial rewards for them!

We are a vegan company

All our chocolate is registered vegan by the Vegan Society. Veganism has a positive impact on the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, removing nitrous oxide and reducing energy consumption.*

We use coconut sugar in preference to cane sugar

Coconut sugar is sourced from the sap of the coconut palm tree. Coconut palm trees are ecologically beneficial as they can restore damaged soil requiring very little water in the process. The palms produce more sugar per acre than sugar cane (50-75% more) while at the same time using less than 20% of the soil nutrients and water for that high level of production.

In fact, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations states that coconut palm sweeteners are the most sustainable sweeteners in the world.

Our packaging

We want all our packaging to be recyclable or compostable - and we’ve nearly achieved that goal. One recent advance is that we now use paper-based foil on our chocolate bars that can be recycled with paper recycling.

We aren’t stopping there and constantly review our packaging for more sustainable options. For example, we are currently investigating recyclable pouches to pack our fudge and buttons.

Sustainability without compromise…?

We’re not quite there yet, but we remain fully committed to exploring and incorporating sustainable practices as our company grows.

Enjoy!
